Mmmm....Bacon....Mmmm....

This is it. The High Prince thought. One more dinner and I get my party. The Dragon King had said he had to finish every meal this week in order to get his birthday party. The Queen of Night had prepared an easy meal the night before knowing that spaghetti had been considered an ok meal in his eyes. He had finished that one with very little problems. Everyone, including the Dragon King, had praised him on finishing the meal in record time. Tonight, the Queen had said would be a very different meal and hoped it would be easy so that all her hard work for his party would not be in vain.

The Queen of Night had prepared nearly the entire meal while he was away for his schooling and said that it would only take a matter of minutes to finish when the Dragon King returned from his official duties. The meal had no smell that he could discern, which bothered him. It didn't look like much either since he only saw a bowl and four pieces of bread on a tray. The Queen was nervous, but she knew that it would be something that she would at least enjoy.

The Dragon King said he would return to the castle soon, so the final preparations began. The smell of cooking flesh wafted through the realm. The Princess of Dragons wandered aimless into the kitchen saying that something smelled good. "It's bacon, sweetie," the Queen said. "I like bacon!" said the Princess of Dragons as she reached toward the frying pan. "IT'S HOT!" screeched the Queen.

Heeding the warning, the Princess quickly pulled her hand away. "But I want to eat the bacon!" "Soon. It will be done soon and it is going to be a part of dinner," said the Queen of Night. The Princess walked out of the room dejectedly. The bacon finished and the oven beeped. It was time to assemble the meal. The High Prince watched with amusement. He saw not a lot of food.

"This will be easy to eat, mother. I'll have it finished in five minutes." The High Prince smiled with glee. It look weird, but smelled kind of good. Everyone assembled at the banquet table and began to eat. A sudden look of utter distaste covered the High Prince's face. "Something tastes weird."

"Is it the crunchy part?" The Queen of Night asked. "Yes. What is it?" the High Prince questioned as he attempted to spit it out. "Do not spit out that bite. Just finish that one. It is the bacon. You've never really liked bacon much, but I wanted you to try it again since it has been a while," the Queen demanded. "I WANT THE BACON! GIVE ME!" the Princess of Dragons squealed. The Dragon King reached over to the High Prince's plate, pulled off the bacon and handed it to the Princess of Dragons.

Begrudgingly, the High Prince accepted that he didn't have to eat the bacon, but was not pleased with the celery pieces in the dish either. He continued to eat until the Dragon King left to tend the gardens. Upon the Dragon King's return though, the entire meal had been consumed by all except the "Spare" Prince who chose not to eat this night.

"Do I still get to have my party?" the High Prince hesitantly asked. "Yes. The party is on," said the Dragon King. "And you have now learned that these meals your mother prepares are not going to kill you. You will be asked finish whatever she puts on your plate from now on. No more three bite deals. You can handle all of this."

The High Prince chose to ignore the last part of what the Dragon King said by running through the castle screaming that he still gets to have his birthday party. The Princess of Dragons and "Spare" Prince joined in the revelry until bedtime was ordered.
